Join us in welcoming Chris Boucher, author of The Original Bucky Lew: Basketball's First Black Professional.
Springfield's Harry "Bucky" Lew is a man who spent the last half of his life in the city—and is buried here—became the first Black basketball player in an integrated pro league when he took the floor in Marlboro in 1902. But he achieved much more. In a career that spanned roughly 25 years, he also became the first Black coach, manager, head referee, and team owner, all in otherwise white leagues.
Hear more about the man whose story is only now being told in full for the first time in this author talk and discussion.
