Visit the library for a musical performance!

African dance and drumming bring people together in joy! In this class series, we will practice West African dance and drumming from Guinea and Mali, while having fun and playing together as a group. Kids will learn traditional dances, and release their energy with movement and expression. We will also practice traditional rhythms on the djembe and dunun drums of West Africa, and play together as an ensemble. Throughout the series we will strengthen our sense of rhythm, creativity and confidence with movement and drumming exercises.  Above all, the class will emphasize self-expression, group support and the joy of movement and music.

This program is made possible by a grant from the Springfield Library Foundation’s Rose M. Smith Music Fund.
